Mateo’s Cafe & Restaurant: Hearty Breakfast & Friendly Service in Appleton, WI

Mateo's praise is well earned. Their skillets are monstrous (stacked almost as high as a coffee mug). I was barely able to finish it because I got toast and pancakes. But, I told the server, "Las cajas son para los que abandonan." Anyway, she and and everyone else there are friendly and efficient. The place is bright and busy. I'll go back again when this hombre is hambriento (hungry).

Team IceHole made a stop at Mateo’s Café & Restaurant — and it was absolutely amazing. We got the full order of biscuits and gravy with two eggs and the corned beef hash skillet — both came out fast and tasted even better. The food was hot, fresh, and loaded with flavor. It’s the kind of breakfast that hits the spot and fuels your whole day. If you’re ever in the area, you NEED to hit this place up. Recommended by a local when we were in town. Wow. The food was great and the service was amazing! We got there early enough to beat the crowd and they accommodated us quickly. The food was delicious and creative (the French toast especially). It got really crowded, but still 5 stars because they can’t help if they’re delicious! See you next time we’re in Appleton!

Definitely the locals' hang out. I ordered the build your own skillet. It was huge! All the ingredients were super fresh! I can see why there are so many take home boxes, you can't possibly eat it all! Great food, great prices.

Excellent Hispanic owned diner with a good mix of traditional breakfast and Hispanic breakfast options. The portions are huge, the waitstaff are wonderful and attentive, and the coffee was always topped off.

Service, staff and food quality make this café a must visit destination. The staff greeted everyone coming in the doors, which in this day and age, is sparse. The service was very attentive, yet not bothersome and the food. The there is the food. Portion sizes are very generous and omelets are superb. I had the eggs Benedict with biscuits and gravy as my side, and I must say I am somewhat of a hollandaise sauce snob.... they were full of flavor and cooked perfectly. Omlet was filled and folded, not topped with toppings like you find at other places with fresh ingredients. Delicious food. Great service. Highly recommend!!

This was my first time at Mateo’s Cafe. It was excellent! I read the reviews before making my decision and I agree with the previous reviews; large portions, delicious, and something for everyone. We arrived on a Sunday around 12. It wasn’t too busy and we ate within 15 minutes of ordering. Our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful. I ordered a Chicken Melt (YUM) with fries; 10/10. My sister had a Tuscan Panini with chicken and rice soup; (7/10). My mom ordered an omelette with potatoes, biscuits and gravy. (8/10). She ordered it with no green peppers, however, it came with them. Our server replaced it and added an extra order of biscuits and gravy! She also didn’t love that the cheese wasn’t cooked into the omelette, only the top. I would go back again, costing about $55 after the tip!

Fast friendly service. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Very generous portions. Lots of variety in the menu. Cute welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely be back!
